Council moves to drastically limit scope of EU due diligence rules
EU member state negotiators agreed to scale back the Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), limiting it to corporate giants with at least 5,000 staff and €1.5bn in turnover. Only six member states have companies large enough to fall under the revised law: France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Spain.
Council agrees position on sustainability reporting and due diligence requirements
On 23 June 2025, the Council of the EU issued a press release stating that Member states’ representatives had agreed the Council’s negotiating mandate on simplifying sustainability reporting and due diligence requirements to boost EU competitiveness.
