Cooper leads Whatley by at least 7 points in new NC Senate polls
The survey found 54% of likely voters approve of Cooper’s candidacy, while 40% back Whatley, with 5% undecided.
On Monday, a Trafalgar Group survey showed Democrat Roy Cooper leading Republican Michael Whatley 48.8% to 40.9% in North Carolina's open U.S. Senate race.
This North Carolina Senate seat represents a key battleground for the Republican Party, which currently holds 53 seats nationwide, as candidate Michael Whatley campaigns on delivering President Donald Trump's agenda.
While the Trafalgar survey of 1,091 likely voters skewed 71.8% white, Republicans have won five consecutive U.S. Senate races in the state since 2008, establishing a formidable historical advantage.
Following the polling release, Whatley's campaign vowed to "double down on winning" even as national super PACs shift resources to other tight races to protect the Republican majority.
Early in-person voting begins Thursday through October 31, with the general election set for November 3, giving both campaigns a final sprint to mobilize North Carolina voters.
