Convatec to Open New R&D Hub in Manchester as Part of £500m UK Investment
Convatec's £500 million UK investment will create around 200 jobs at a new Manchester R&D hub, part of a $1 billion plan to boost innovation in the UK and US.
- The FTSE 100 listed firm said it will open a flagship Manchester, United Kingdom R&D hub in 2027 backed by a £600 million UK investment.
- Following a review of its global growth ambitions, Convatec announced plans to invest more than $1 billion over the next decade to accelerate R&D ambitions.
- Around 200 staff will transfer to the new Manchester hub, with no redundancies planned as Deeside, North Wales retains around 400 employees.
- The new facility will be located at Citylabs 4.0 on the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust campus, offering shared R&D across four clinical categories and set to be one of the largest in Convatec's network.
- The move comes as a boost amid Merck's UK operation scrapping plans for a London site and AstraZeneca pausing Cambridge investments, while Convatec plans a major UK R&D hub in Manchester.
