Conley wins Democratic primary to take on Republican Congressman Mike Lawler in New York
The West Point graduate and Army veteran outraised Beth Davidson by more than $1 million and will challenge one of the House’s most vulnerable Republicans.
On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Democrat Cait Conley won the primary for New York's 17th Congressional District, securing a matchup against Republican Representative Mike Lawler in November's midterm elections.
Conley is a 16-year Army veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan before holding national security posts in the Biden Administration and at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.
Outraising rival Beth Davidson by more than $1 million, Conley demonstrated fundraising strength, though Lawler holds a substantial advantage with $7.4 million raised to Conley's $3.3 million.
The 17th Congressional District, narrowly won by Kamala Harris in 2024, represents a top pickup opportunity for House Democrats, who need a net three seats to flip the chamber.
Despite an unfavorable national environment for Republicans, Lawler remains formidable, having defeated Representative Sean Patrick Maloney and former Representative Mondaire Jones in previous tough races.
