Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, Uae Join Trump's 'Board of Peace'
Eight countries have joined the Trump-led Board of Peace to support Gaza ceasefire, reconstruction, and peace efforts based on Palestinian self-determination, officials said.
- On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Turkiye, Indonesia and Pakistan accepted invitations to join US President Donald Trump's Board of Peace, with Kuwait later confirming its acceptance.
- Trump first proposed the Board last September as part of his plan to end the Gaza war, aiming to consolidate a permanent ceasefire, support Gaza reconstruction and advance Palestinian self-determination.
- The board's draft charter says member states face three-year terms unless they pay $1 billion for permanent seats, and names U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, former British prime minister Tony Blair, and Jared Kushner to the founding Executive Board.
- Diplomats warn the Board's legal authority and enforcement tools remain unclear, and some countries fear it could undermine the United Nations multilateral system, raising concern from France, concerned ally.
- The White House also announced that the Gaza Executive Board will support a transitional Palestinian administration in Gaza and supervise the 20-point plan under international law.
