- One speaker argued reopening is beyond the legal authority of the Hertford County board of commissioners, while a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said there are no new centers to announce and The GEO Group Inc. did not respond to requests.
- Past local pressure has sometimes forced owners to abandon federal deals, and ICE documents show plans for 16 processing sites and eight detention centers with 92,600 beds, while over 70,000 detainees are held as of January.
