A Big Pattern Change Will Funnel Arctic Air Into the US. Here’s Where Temperatures Will Drop
Temperatures will drop 10 to 15 degrees below normal across the Midwest, South, and Northeast with freeze conditions reaching the Gulf Coast and Texas, meteorologist Jonathan Erdman said.
- A major cold blast is set to begin this weekend, bringing the coldest air of the season to the Midwest and Northeast and a freeze into the Deep South, with Monday likely the coldest day.
- A cold front is allowing December-like air from near the North Pole to spread into the northern U.S., with temperatures falling 10 to 15 degrees below normal across areas east of the Rockies by Sunday night.
- Low temperatures could reach at or below freezing as far south as Texas and as far east as the Appalachians while Monday's highs may stay in the 30s into the Ohio Valley.
- Snow chances include some accumulation in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York through Monday night while strong winds push wind chills into the teens and 20s across the Midwest, Northeast and South.
- The cold snap will be brief, with temperatures in much of the central U.S. rebounding to near or above normal on Monday, and most of the East following soon after.
