Punjab CM Announces 50-Acre Film City Project in Lahore

Officials said the project aims to create thousands of jobs and cut reliance on foreign VFX and post-production work.

  • On Sunday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the establishment of a 50-acre Punjab Film City in Lahore, positioning it as Pakistan's first fully end-to-end media production hub.
  • The project will be developed within the 853-acre Nawaz Sharif IT City, with land transferring from Knowledge Park Company to CBD Punjab this month to enable construction.
  • Modern studios, sound stages, and post-production laboratories for visual effects form the core infrastructure, while the facility will also include a film and music school and convention halls for international award shows.
  • With an estimated cost of Rs100 billion, the project aims to generate thousands of jobs while the government announced a 10-year tax exemption to attract investment.
  • "This initiative will empower local talent, create thousands of jobs, and position Pakistan as a global hub for creative excellence," said the CM on X, adding the Film City will serve as a gift for youth.
