Clock starts on timing of byelection Poilievre hopes to use to return to Parliament

Damien Kurek has been formally confirmed as the elected representative for the Alberta constituency of Battle River—Crowfoot after securing more than 80 percent of the vote.
Kurek is required by federal law to remain in Parliament for at least 30 days before resigning, enabling Pierre Poilievre to subsequently contest the resulting byelection.
After Kurek's resignation is reported, the government has 11 to 180 days to call a byelection with a minimum 36-day campaign, likely placing the vote in early August.
Poilievre, who lost his Carleton seat to a Liberal on April 28 after being elected seven times since 2004, cannot act as Opposition leader without a Commons seat, prompting Andrew Scheer’s temporary leadership.
