CJP names Ajinkya Shinde to lead Jantar Mantar protest as 3 leaders remain detained
The party said Shinde will lead the protest after police detained its founder and two senior leaders, with more than 2,000 people reportedly held in central Delhi.
- On Saturday, the Cockroach Janta Party appointed Organization In-Charge Ajinkya Shinde to lead its planned protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Shinde assumes leadership while founder Abhijeet Dipke and fellow leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka remain detained.
- The demonstration demands the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision drive. The CJP alleges this initiative resulted in the improper deletion of 13 crore voters from electoral rolls.
- Delhi Police detained Dipke, Das, and Ranka from inside their aircraft shortly after it landed in the capital on Saturday morning. Officers entered the plane to execute the detentions as authorities sought to preempt the gathering.
- Around 25,000 police and paramilitary personnel were deployed across Delhi to enforce prohibitory orders and block the protest. Despite the heavy security clampdown and denied permission, the CJP maintains the demonstration will proceed.
- Anticipating his arrest, Dipke recorded a video Friday night outlining the succession plan for the movement. He urged supporters to follow Shinde, ensuring the protest continues as long as the three senior leaders remain in custody.
