Homeowners in suburban Cicero are beginning to receive free sewer system upgrades through a federally funded flood prevention program aimed at reducing basement flooding.
The Municipality of Cicero began on Wednesday the installation of flood prevention systems to protect hundreds of homes that have faced water accumulations in their basements for years due to problems with the drainage system. The project will allocate $20 million to the installation of valves that prevent drainage water from returning to homes during storms.
