Patriots' Christian Gonzalez: 'I Hope We Get Something Done' on a Contract Extension
On Tuesday, New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez reported to mandatory minicamp at Gillette Stadium, ending his absence from voluntary offseason workouts as contract extension negotiations continue.
Seeking a long-term contract extension, the 23-year-old became eligible for a deal during the 2026 offseason and aims to secure his future beyond his current rookie contract.
Recording 69 tackles and 10 pass defenses during his 2025 Pro Bowl season, Gonzalez targets a contract challenging the cornerback market's $31 million average annual value.
Participating only in warmups and individual drills Tuesday, Gonzalez told reporters, "I want to be rewarded as a Patriot. So of course I want to be here."
Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel said "conversations have been great" regarding negotiations, with the team scheduled to break before training camp begins July 25.
