Nigeria: Cholera Claims 13 Lives in Niger State
NIGER STATE, NIGERIA, JUL 23 – Niger State authorities have activated a multi-sectoral strategy including isolation centers and public sensitization to control cholera, which has affected over 230 people, officials said.
- A cholera outbreak claimed at least 13 lives and infected over 239 people across six local government areas in Niger State, Nigeria.
- The outbreak started in Shiroro LGA and spread due to contaminated water and limited access to clean drinking water.
- The government deployed a multi-sectoral response team, established treatment and isolation centers, and launched sensitisation campaigns targeting religious groups and emirates.
- Dr Ibrahim Dangana stated that patients admitted to hospitals throughout the state are receiving free treatment, and the number of cases in the outbreak is decreasing.
