China's Xpeng expects to start delivering 'flying' cars in 2027
The company has received more than 7,000 orders and is working to win aviation approval before deliveries begin.
- On Thursday, Xpeng President Brian Gu announced the company expects to begin large-scale production of its "flying" cars next year, targeting late-2026 deliveries from its Guangzhou facility.
- Aridge, Xpeng's flying car division, is preparing its 120,000-square-meter Guangzhou facility to manufacture the "Land Aircraft Carrier," a modular two-part system combining a ground vehicle with a detachable eVTOL aircraft.
- Over 7,000 customers have ordered the two-part system priced around $300,000, with the majority of orders from China where Xpeng is working to obtain aviation authority approvals.
- German automaker Volkswagen has begun mass production of a jointly developed EV model, while Xpeng President Brian Gu said there is "tremendous potential" to increase cooperation between the companies.
- While 2027 will be a "critical year" for "tests around the world with partners," significant regulatory hurdles for urban air mobility remain as Xpeng also plans humanoid robot production in Q4 2026.
