China Says It Is Testing Quantum Cyber Weapons in Military Missions
The People’s Liberation Army is advancing quantum tools for intelligence, detection, and secure communication, with over 10 devices tested in diverse terrain, officials said.
In recent months, the People's Liberation Army said more than 10 experimental quantum cyber warfare tools are under development, with many tested in front-line missions, Science and Technology Daily reported.
China is pursuing quantum systems to gather high-value military intelligence from public cyberspace and develop navigation and stealth-detection systems aligned with national security goals.
The project is led by a supercomputing laboratory at the National University of Defence Technology, which confirmed that its 6.6-pound prototype received signals from tens of miles and enabled real-time decoding during recent field exercises.
Border units are now testing what may be the world's first portable quantum radio after successful trials in the Saibei grasslands north of the Great Wall, the PLA said it supports emergency communications where standard systems fail in valleys and dense forests.
A US commission report noted quantum technologies will reshape sensing, encryption, and data security, with China and the United States heavily investing amid China's centralized funding.
