In 2010, three American guided-missile submarines surfaced at almost the same moment in three separate places: USS Ohio at Subic Bay in the Philippines, USS Michigan at Busan in South Korea, and USS Florida at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. Between them they carried 462 Tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles. Nothing was officially directed at anyone. Everyone understood it was aimed at Beijing.
