Four years after the UN human rights office warned that abuses against Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples in East Turkistan may amount to crimes against humanity, the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) says China has faced little meaningful international accountability and has continued to intensify its repression.
Four years have passed since the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights published its report stating that China's practices in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region could amount to "crimes against humanity." The Campaign for Uyghurs argues that Beijing has failed to implement the key recommendations in the report and is calling on the UN and governments to take joint action.
