Williams Lake Wrestler Flagbearer for Team BC at Canada Games Closing Ceremony
Dominic Wendt secured gold in the 65 kg wrestling category, contributing to Team B.C.'s silver with 10 points against Team Ontario's 40 at the Canada Summer Games.
On August 23 at Glacier Arena in St. John's, Dominic Wendt, an 18-year-old Chilliwack wrestler, won the 65 kg gold medal bout.
Wendt defeated Dexter Bates of Ontario, while Team B.C. reached the gold medal matchup and secured a silver medal overall.
Among the B.C. gold medal winners were female athletes Gurleen Dhillon , Kai Pare , and Natalie Wojciechowski . On the men's side, champions included Sasha Chupryna , Harjot Shergill , Mehar Deol , and Jagroop Dhinsa .
Team B.C. earned 10 aggregate points compared to Team Ontario's 40 points, while Alberta won four golds, Manitoba one, and New Brunswick and Saskatchewan one each.
The results confirmed Team B.C.'s strong individual performances but showed Ontario's dominance in overall gold medals and points at the Canada Summer Games.
