PORTER CREEK, WHITEHORSE, YUKON, JUL 20 – Police continue searching for a Caucasian male suspect described by witnesses after a nine-year-old girl was abducted and found safe within hours in Porter Creek, police said.
- Yukon RCMP spokesperson said a nine-year-old girl walking home after playing was forced into a vehicle and reported missing at 9:53 p.m. on July 20, after being abducted along Grove Street in Whitehorse’s Porter Creek neighbourhood.
- Calling it a `rare situation`, MacLeod said police don’t know the suspect’s identity or origin and noted family searched after she missed her 9:30 p.m. Sunday curfew.
- MacLeod said the suspect is a white man with blue eyes, medium-to-long reddish hair and red facial hair, and police said the vehicle was a smaller blue or gray SUV.
- By 11:06 p.m. that night the child was found safe in the same neighbourhood, and MacLeod said police are investigating it as a kidnapping and will not release further details.
- With the Major Crime Unit, Specialized Response Unit and Whitehorse detachment on the case, MacLeod asked witnesses with video footage from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on July 20 to come forward.
