Texas GOP House member’s chief of staff faces firearm charges
Court filings say Luis Angel Vega carried a pistol and ammunition through security without a license and faces two firearm counts.
Luis Angel Vega, chief of staff to Rep. Pete Sessions, a Texas Republican, was charged Wednesday with bringing a firearm into the Capitol complex, according to court documents obtained by CNN.
Charges stem from an incident in December when Capitol security officers discovered a black pistol and ammunition in Vega's bag at a House office building security checkpoint.
Vega usually entered the House office building alongside Sessions, who is exempt from security screening, allowing him to bypass the magnetometer check that day, court filings indicate.
Facing two counts—carrying a firearm without a license and carrying a firearm onto Capitol grounds—Vega is scheduled for a DC Superior court appearance on Friday.
The Capitol Police and US Attorney's office in DC did not immediately return requests for comment, while CNN reached out to Sessions' office for response.
