Chelsea’s Sam Kerr confirms she will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season
Chelsea said the Australia forward will depart as a free agent after six-and-a-half years and 115 goals, one shy of Fran Kirby’s club record.
Australian striker Sam Kerr will leave Chelsea at the end of this season when her contract expires, making her final appearance Saturday in a Women's Super League clash against Manchester United.
During her six-and-a-half-year stint, Kerr netted 115 goals in 157 appearances, helping Chelsea secure five Women's Super League titles, three FA Cups, and three League Cups.
Kerr remains one goal behind Fran Kirby as Chelsea's all-time leading scorer after overcoming a 20-month absence following a knee ligament injury in January 2024.
"Happy that it happened, and I feel so grateful to have played for this club for six years," Kerr said, while Chelsea thanked the striker for her "incredible contribution."
While Kerr has not confirmed her next destination, reports link the Australian to the NWSL and the ambitious new franchise Denver Summit; her departure follows the recent retirement of teammate Millie Bright.
