On October 29, thunderstorms hit Changchun, Jilin Province, one of the three northeastern provinces of China. Around 9 p.m. that evening, many Changchun residents reported feeling their houses and sofas shake, describing the tremors as strong and initially mistaking them for an earthquake. The Jilin Provincial Earthquake Bureau stated that a mining tremor occurred in Erdao District of Changchun that evening.
