Chad scraps presidential term limits, cementing Deby's rule
Chad's parliament has overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment abolishing presidential term limits, a move critics decry as a maneuver to entrench the rule of President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.

Meeting in Congress on Friday, 3 October, Chadian deputies and senators overwhelmingly approved a revision of the Constitution, the key measure of which is the establishment of a presidential term of seven years, renewable at will. Initially scheduled for 13 October, the vote was organised about ten days in advance.
