The world's largest atom smasher is getting a powerful new upgrade

Physicists are finalizing plans for MATHUSLA, a powerful new addition to CERN's Large Hadron Collider that will detect long-lived particles and potentially open the door to new physics.

The prize is worth three million dollars and will be used to provide scholarships for doctoral students at CERN.

The Atlas, CMS, Alice and LHCb experimental collaborations at CERN, which involve researchers from more than 70 countries, including Slovenia, have received a prestigious award for breakthrough achievements in fundamental physics. The award will be used to fund scholarships.

This year's physics prize was awarded to the four major experiments at CERN's Large Hadron Collider, ALICE, ATLAS, CMS and LHCb, all of which were worked on by Hungarian scientists.

In data from the large particle accelerator at the Cern a new hadron has been discovered. Actually Higgs bosons have been searched. (Quark, LHC)
