Soon after the 2019 elections, which António Costa won with an absolute majority, Centeno wanted to leave the Finances but to stay some more time in the Government (until the departure of Carlos Costa do Banco de Portugal).
The proposal was not accepted by the Prime Minister, revealed Centeno in a new book to be published this week.
The former Minister of Finance Mário Centeno considered that the health sector needed changes in the way resources were managed and intended to carry out functions as Minister of State or "a similar title". Nevertheless, the Covid-19 pandemic would eventually render any attempt to reform impossible.
The former finance minister launches on Friday, the 25th, a book in which he tells that he proposed to António Costa to leave the folder to look at the accounts and health management.
