Camembert, brie and other soft cheeses from France have been recalled by the French Consumer Protection Agency because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The infection is particularly dangerous for infants, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems. The disease has already claimed two lives in France.
Cow and goat cheeses have been recalled from the market due to bacterial contamination.
The European Union's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) has issued a warning: Listeria monocytogenes bacteria have been detected in pasteurized cow's and goat's milk cheeses from France. A shipment of the infected batches has also arrived in Hungary.
