2 Women Accused in Carnival Cruise Fight over Line Now Facing Federal Charges
Court records say the women traded slaps and kicks before Carnival employees separated them, and both received federal citations for simple assault.
Two Alabama women, Lisa Horace, 51, and Tonya Nelson, 58, pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal assault charges after a physical altercation aboard a Carnival Spirit cruise returning from the Bahamas in March.
The conflict began near Guest Services on Deck 2 when Nelson approached Horace and her husband to inform them they were in a line designated for Diamond and Platinum VIFP members.
Investigators reported the dispute escalated when Nelson repeatedly touched Horace's husband, leading to mutual slapping and kicking; the FBI handled the case because the incident occurred in international waters.
Charges are expected to be dismissed if neither woman commits another crime for three months; however, both remain banned from Carnival ships and lost their Diamond VIFP loyalty status.
Nelson's attorney, Buzz Jordan, noted he is hopeful Carnival will reinstate both women's status, after Nelson told the court, "I'm just sorry that we're here.
