Sabres Agree to Send Alex Tuch to the Capitals as Part of Sign-and-Trade Deal, AP Source Says
The Sabres get a draft pick after signing Tuch to an eight-year, $84 million contract, giving Washington a top-line scorer before free agency.
The Washington Capitals finalized a sign-and-trade for Alex Tuch from the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday, securing the veteran winger to an eight-year extension worth $10.5 million AAV.
Buffalo Sabres general manager Jarmo Kekalainen moved Tuch to secure assets before the winger reached free agency, as the sign-and-trade was the only option for Buffalo to receive compensation.
In return for Tuch, the Sabres receive a third-round pick, while the winger brings 33 goals and 33 assists from last season to Washington's lineup.
Washington also acquired Jordan Kyrou from the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, continuing an aggressive push to add veterans and reach the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 2018.
These roster moves signal a commitment to contending beyond the 2025/26 season as the Capitals await a decision from captain Alex Ovechkin regarding his playing future.
The Buffalo Sabres reportedly agreed to have Alex Tuch sign a contract before sending it to the Washington Capitals, according to the Associated Press.
