Risk of flooding in Hoeksche Waard due to digging beavers
The Hollandse Delta water board has had to take measures to prevent a dike in the South Holland municipality of Hoeksche Waard from breaking due to digging by beavers. It concerns a so-called bosom dike, a narrow dike, along the water in the village of Maasdam. "If the dike breaks, the hinterland could be flooded," according to a spokesperson for the water board. "In concrete terms, this means flooding in the villages of Maasdam and Puttershoek."
