Can Mohammad Amir register for IPL auction? Former Pakistan player eyes Indian Premier League after switching nationality
British citizenship could widen Amir’s franchise options and remove the need for a Pakistan Cricket Board no-objection certificate, reports said.
Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has registered for the Afghanistan Premier League draft as a British national, with the event scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, in Dubai.
Speculation emerged that Amir might enter the Indian Premier League 2027 auction using his UK passport, following a precedent set by former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, who played in the league between 2012 and 2015.
On Friday, Amir posted on his official Instagram handle, stating, "Hi everyone just wanted to clarify news regarding IPL is not true," effectively denying the speculation.
By registering as a UK national, Amir avoids needing a No-Objection Certificate from the Pakistan Cricket Board , with the APL draft featuring 462 players across multiple categories.
Since retiring from international cricket in 2024, the 34-year-old has focused entirely on franchise cricket, competing in leagues including the T20 Blast and The Hundred.
