Thailand Suspends Peace Deal With Cambodia After Landmine Explosion

The landmine blast injured two Thai soldiers and caused Thailand to halt the peace deal signed at the ASEAN Summit intended to end border conflicts.

  • On Nov. 10, 2025, a landmine blast at 9:30 a.m. near Sisaket province, Thailand, and Preah Vihear province, Cambodia, injured one soldier severely and three others lightly, prompting Thailand to suspend its peace accord with Cambodia.
  • Earlier this year repeated blasts in July escalated tensions along the border, with explosions on July 16 and July 23 prompting a recalled ambassador and hostilities on July 24.
  • Gen. Winthai Suvari said investigators found PMN-2 landmine fragments in the crater and three additional PMN-2 mines placed about 1 meter from the blast site.
  • The government will postpone the planned release of 18 Cambodian soldiers, initially set for later this week, while conditions for returning to the deal remain unspecified.
  • The deal, overseen by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and U.S. President Donald Trump, aimed to end July's fighting that killed at least 43 and displaced more than 300,000, but the landmine blast exposes its fragility.
