In connection with the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany there have been raids in several city administrations due to suspicions of corruption. According to the North Rhine-Westphalian state criminal office, the organizing society of the tournament is accused of having offered tickets to employees of the host cities without permission.
On 1 July several town halls in NRW were searched. The focus of the measure is Gelsenkirchen. This was about corruption accusations at the EM 2024.
The investigation, which led to searches in Frankfurt on Wednesday 1 July, concerns preferential tickets allocated to host cities of the competition that took place overseas in the summer of 2024.
