Trump-endorsed Mills loses primary in Florida amid House Ethics probe
On Tuesday, Republican voters in Florida's 7th Congressional District rejected Rep. Cory Mills' reelection bid, as Decision Desk HQ projected former local news anchor Ryan Elijah as the winner.
The defeat follows an ongoing House Ethics Committee investigation into allegations that Mills assaulted a woman and threatened to distribute nude images of a former girlfriend; Mills has denied any wrongdoing.
Despite Mills campaigning on a Trump endorsement, President Donald Trump left him out of recent social media posts, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis stated last week, "I have not endorsed Cory Mills, and I do not support Cory Mills."
Mills becomes the fourth congressman this year to lose a seat following accusations of misconduct against women, joining Rep. Chuck Edwards who ended his reelection campaign amid similar ethics concerns.
Nominee Ryan Elijah now faces Democrat Bale Dalton in November's general election for the district, which President Donald Trump won by 12 percentage points in 2024.
