Bypolls in Nandigram, Rejinagar, 3 other assembly seats and Nagaon LS on Oct 6: EC
On Monday, the Election Commission of India announced bypolls for six seats across four states, with voting scheduled for October 6 and results declared on October 9.
Vacancies arose after representatives resigned to switch parties or retain other seats. Affected constituencies include Nandigram and Rejinagar in West Bengal, Madurantakam and Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu, Thattanchavady in Puducherry, and Nagaon Lok Sabha in Assam.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari vacated Nandigram, while Aam Janata Unnayan Party founder Humayun Kabir left Rejinagar. Maragatham Kumaravel and P Sathyabama resigned from Tamil Nadu seats to join the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam .
The ECI confirmed deployment of electronic voting machines across all polling stations. "Adequate numbers of EVMs and VVPATs have been made available," the ECI stated, ensuring smooth polling processes.
In Puducherry, Chief Minister N Rangasamy vacated Thattanchavady to retain Mangalam. Assam's Nagaon Lok Sabha seat became open after Pradyut Bordoloi resigned from the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party .
