BYD's latest EVs can get close to full charge in just 12 minutes
BYD aims to expand its market share in Europe with the Denza Z9 GT, featuring up to 497 miles WLTP range and charging from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes.
- Last week, Denza revealed the Z9 GT and BYD said it will launch the Flash Charging-equipped model in Europe on April 8, 2026.
- BYD, Chinese automaker, is targeting Porsche, BMW and Mercedes‑Benz as its nearly 190,000 European sales last year underpin its expansion in the UK and EU markets.
- BYD's Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging enable 1,036 km CTLC range, 10%–70% recharge in five minutes, and 10%–97% in nine minutes at up to 1,500 kW charging power, taking 12 minutes at-30°C.
- BYD has already installed thousands of BYD Flash Charging stations in China and will begin a global rollout this year, starting with hundreds of stations in Europe, aiming for 20,000 sites worldwide.
- Some industry figures argue that public and home-charging infrastructure matter more than ultrafast stations, despite EU EV sales rising to 17.4% last year and Tesla adding 200 miles in 15 minutes.
