Burmese Refugee Founder Launches Cybersecurity School to Empower Diaspora Communities Through Technology and Workforce Development
The Mo School aims to remove cost and language barriers for Burmese refugees and immigrants entering cybersecurity, a field the United States says needs more workers.
Ye Yint Myint Mo, a Burmese refugee and Cornell University Executive MPA candidate, founded The Mo School under the Myanmar Center to provide cybersecurity education specifically for the Burmese diaspora in The United States.
Mo's frontline experience as Executive Director of USIRD, a nonprofit focused on immigrant resettlement, informed the creation of The Mo School as a practical response to barriers including high training costs, language gaps, and limited professional networks.
The curriculum covers network security fundamentals, threat identification, vulnerability assessment, and compliance frameworks, while the school minimizes financial barriers to allow participation from students managing work, family responsibilities, and ongoing resettlement challenges.
Cybersecurity represents one of the fastest-growing fields in the modern economy, and The Mo School positions its students to compete for roles offering strong salaries, job stability, and clear advancement paths amid significant United States professional shortages.
"The Mo School is that pathway, and cybersecurity is the vehicle that will help our community members build stable, meaningful careers," Mo said, as the Burmese diaspora invests in its own future through community-led capacity building.
