- On Friday , Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim tabled a RM470 billion Budget 2026 in Dewan Rakyat, with targeted subsidies saving about RM15.5 billion annually, the government says.
- Faced with misuse of blanket subsidies, the government says targeting helps ease cost-of-living pressures while narrowing the fiscal deficit target of 3.5% next year.
- As a result of those measures, floating chicken and egg prices saved RM1 billion each while electricity tariff restructuring yielded RM6 billion savings with 85% of electricity consumers unaffected.
- The government says saved funds will be redirected to rakyat-focused welfare, cost-of-living support and infrastructure, with Sabah receiving RM6.9 billion, Sarawak RM6 billion, and a special grant of RM600 million.
- Parliament will debate the budget starting Oct 13 for eight days, with ministry responses due from Oct 29 after BUDI95 served more than 10 million Malaysians at RM1.99 per litre.
