The Hungarian government said on Feb. 8 that it is providing consular protection to its citizen detained by Ukraine over allegedly trying to help five Ukrainian draft-age men illegally cross the border.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Sijjarto said he supported the illegal transfer of Ukrainian men across the border, criticizing the mobilization in Ukraine.
According to Szijjártó, the Consulate General in Beregszás is assisting the arrested Hungarian man.
Ukrainian people do not want to die on the front, yet violent conscription operations are taking place in Ukraine every day, stated Péter Szijjártó, who said that as the fourth anniversary of the war approaches, more and more people are trying to escape conscription.
