Mock Drill to Be Held in 4 States Bordering Pakistan Tomorrow
- On May 29, 2025, the Indian states of Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Haryana are set to participate in a civil defence exercise named Operation Shield.
- The drill follows increased tensions with Pakistan after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people and retaliatory Operation Sindoor launched by India on May 7.
- Operation Shield will involve activation of air raid sirens, blackout measures, evacuation rehearsals, and coordination among civil defence volunteers across all 22 Haryana districts and adjoining regions.
- Haryana will observe a 15-minute statewide blackout from 8:00 pm to 8:15 pm to test emergency response, while medical teams and blood transportation services will also deploy during the exercise.
- The drill aims to enhance preparedness for hostile scenarios like air raids, drone, and missile attacks amid continuing civil defence strengthening efforts supervised by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
