Awaited for months and inserted in the EU executive's response to the current EU housing crisis, the new Affordable Housing Act aims to establish common criteria for determining when an area faces a housing pressure situation and under what conditions measures can be adopted that affect short-term accommodation, according to a draft to which the agency Lusaka had access.

The European Commission will present on Wednesday a proposal to create common rules allowing Member States and local authorities of the European Union (EU) to regulate short-term accommodation, such as Airbnb, in areas under housing pressure.
The document does not provide for a general ban on local accommodation, but sets out criteria for determining when restrictive measures may be taken by national, regional or local authorities.
