Brush fire burning near Stevenson Ranch homes in Santa Clarita Valley
The blaze has charred more than 40 acres as helicopters and hand crews work to contain flames near homes, officials said.
On Monday, the Max Fire erupted in the Stevenson Ranch neighborhood of Santa Clarita, with flames burning dangerously close to homes and prompting evacuation orders.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded at 4:20 p.m. to reports of the blaze starting in a hiking area of Pico Canyon Park near West Magnolia Lane.
Firefighters battled the 45-acre blaze from the air and ground, with helicopters dropping flame-retardant material as hand crews established containment lines around threatened structures.
Authorities issued evacuation orders for zone STV-PICO on Monday evening, and the department reported crews stopped the fire's forward progress by 6:25 p.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, while no injuries or specific containment details were immediately available; officials directed residents to monitor official sources for updates.
