Browns QB Deshaun Watson Speaks to the Media for First Time Since 2024 Season-Ending Injury
Watson said he is not trying to match his 2020 numbers and believes he can help Cleveland win while competing for the starting job.
On Wednesday, Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson spoke publicly for the first time since his October 2024 Achilles injury, declaring, "I can say that now I'm fully healthy, I'm ready to go."
After missing 49 of 68 regular-season games since joining Cleveland in 2022, Watson is battling Shedeur Sanders to reclaim the starting quarterback job this offseason.
Head coach Todd Monken recently said, "We've got two starting-level quarterbacks" when assessing the competition, while Watson believes the system resembles the one he thrived in with Houston.
Entering the final season of his five-year, $230 million contract, Watson is due more than $127 million against the salary cap, making this year critical for his future.
Comparing his path to baseball player Bryce Harper, Watson said, "Sometimes he swings, but he stands back up and he gets another opportunity," emphasizing his focus on the field over outside criticism.
