Man Dies After Using 'Detox' Drug Made From 'Poisonous Frog'
A 41-year-old man was arrested as toxicology tests continue after Kristian Trend died following a Kambo cleansing ceremony.
British wellness coach Kristian Trend, 40, died in hospital after collapsing at his Leicester home on April 11 during a 'detox' ritual involving Kambo, a substance derived from Amazonian tree frog skin.
Traditionally used in South America for fertility and 'purging' ceremonies, Kambo remains legal in the UK despite bans in Australia, Brazil, and Chile.
Leicestershire Police confirmed a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of administering poison and released on bail, with an "investigation into the circumstances of the incident is continuing."
Trend's mother, Angie, called for a Kambo ban, while relatives established a fundraiser for the Loros hospice charity in Leicestershire honoring the 'very spiritual' coach.
The Home Office is collaborating with health authorities to assess the substance, stating that "any substance that poses a risk to public health or safety will be kept under review.
Health coach Kristian Trend, 40, took a drug made from the mucus of a poisonous frog and died at his home, The Sun reports. It is said to be the first British death from the drug, which has become increasingly popular for detox purposes.
