British and French paratroopers take part in major wargame in Germany
About 600 British and French paratroopers joined a seven-week drill to test NATO’s rapid response against drones and electronic warfare, officials said.
- On Saturday, British and French paratroopers conducted one of the largest airborne operations in 20 years, jumping 800ft from four RAF A400M Atlas aircraft over the Sennelager Training Centre during Exercise Rhino Titan.
- Brigadier Ed Cartwright, Commander of 16 Air Assault Brigade, said the seven-week exercise tested troops against "an enemy using drones and electronic warfare" to simulate realistic modern battlefield conditions.
- Overall, roughly 2,500 personnel participated in the operation, with 600 paratroopers acting as a "blocking force" to prevent simulated breaches into NATO territory.
- Defence Secretary Wes Streeting said the exercise demonstrates Britain can "deliver rapid, large-scale airborne power" to defend NATO allies and deter adversaries.
- General Alexus Grynkewich, NATO's top commander, recently vowed to "block" and "blunt" any attack on the alliance, as Western nations face heightened concerns over Russian sabotage and "hybrid" warfare campaigns.
