British grid operator cancels plea for more power as temperatures soar
Neso said tight margins could force suppliers to add capacity as record temperatures raise demand and reduce efficiency in power plants and cooling systems.
The National Energy System Operator issued a rare summer electricity margin notice today, effective between 7pm and 10pm on Wednesday to manage potential supply constraints during peak evening hours.
A heat dome settling over Europe brings record-breaking Temperatures across Great Britain, England, and Wales, pressuring the grid through reduced efficiency and increased demand for cooling systems.
While electricity margin notices typically occur in winter, Neso described this summer alert as a "routine tool," stressing that it "does not mean electricity supply is at risk."
The notice signals to the electricity market that additional capacity may be required, allowing for increased production if necessary to prevent shortages during the three-hour evening period.
Soaring Temperatures can reduce efficiency in power generation, including nuclear power plants and gas stations, as Britain remains braced for these conditions through Thursday.
