Bridgerton Set for Young Lady Violet Spin-Off
Shonda Rhimes will co-showrun the limited series, which adapts Julia Quinn’s Violet In Bloom and expands Netflix’s Bridgerton franchise.
On Thursday, Netflix and Shondaland announced an untitled limited series spinoff chronicling the early life of Lady Violet and her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.
The prequel follows the rollout model of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, drawing from Julia Quinn's novella Violet in Bloom, which explores the matriarch's childhood, romance, and marriage to Edmund.
Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini will serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers, while longtime creative partner Betsy Beers also executive produces and Tom Verica directs.
While Ruth Gemmell portrays the matriarch in the original series, it remains unclear if Connie Jenkins-Greig will reprise her younger role, as Netflix has not announced the cast.
Expanding the Bridgerton universe remains a key part of Netflix and Shondaland's relationship; Season 5 of the mothership series is currently in production, marking another major franchise investment.
