Brewers Find a New Injury to Brandon Woodruff’s Shoulder
Imaging found a new injury to the anterior shoulder capsule, and studies cited by the team suggest a 12- to 14-month recovery.
On Wednesday, July 8, the Milwaukee Brewers placed Brandon Woodruff on the 15-day injured list after imaging revealed a new injury to his anterior shoulder capsule, prompting him to seek a second opinion from surgeon Keith Meister.
Woodruff experienced a velocity drop during his start at Arizona on Saturday, July 4, forcing his removal in the fourth inning; this marks his second shoulder-related injured list placement this season.
The team's MRI exam confirmed injury to the anterior shoulder capsule, previously repaired in 2023. Manager Pat Murphy said, "It's hard, but he's trying to be strong" when asked about Woodruff's response.
Logan Henderson will replace Woodruff in the rotation against the Louis Cardinals on Thursday, July 9, while the Brewers retain depth options Coleman Crow and Robert Gasser through the August 3 trade deadline.
Research from the National Institute of Health indicates a potential surgical repair requires 12-14 months recovery, complicating the outlook for the free agent-to-be who compiled a 2.98 ERA in nine starts this season.
