The Lower Saxony Landtag elected the former Minister of Economic Affairs Lies as the new Prime Minister. The SPD politician, who wants to continue the red-green coalition of his predecessor Weil, received the necessary majority in the first round of the Hanover elections.
The Social Democrats wanted to become Prime Minister as early as 2011, but then had to let Stephan Weil take the lead. He is regarded as a compromise seeker and handshaker – with almost impeccable balance sheet.
Olaf Lies is the new Prime Minister of Lower Saxony. The Landtag in Hanover voted in favour of the SPD politician. He wants to continue the red-green coalition of his predecessor Stephan Weil.
Stephan Weil was no longer in office, but instead he was to be followed by Olaf Lies, Minister of Economic Affairs, who was now confirmed in office.
