53-Year-Old Actor Who Worked with Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Sunny Deol Turns Out to Be Murder Convict on the Run
Police said the 54-year-old fugitive hid under aliases for a decade while appearing in films, plays and web series before his arrest.
- On Thursday, the Detection of Crime Branch of Ahmedabad City Police detained Hemant Nagindas Purshottamdas Modi near Gheekanta Metro Station, a 54-year-old fugitive evading justice since 2014.
- Hemant Modi was convicted in 2008 for the 2005 murder of Narendra alias Nano Yashwant Kamble, but jumped parole after the Gujarat High Court granted him 30 days of release in 2014.
- While in hiding, Spandan pursued an acting career alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, and Ranveer Singh in Bollywood films, plus about 20 Gujarati films and 17 plays.
- Police Inspector P M Dhakhada said "confidential information" led authorities to the fugitive after he returned to Ahmedabad; upon recognition, Modi confessed his true identity.
- Unlike the six other individuals convicted in the same case who completed their sentences and were rehabilitated, the fugitive chose to live under a false name, cutting short his 'dream' acting career.
