CNG Prices Hiked Fourth Time in Eleven Days in Delhi and North India; Latest by ₹2/kg
The increase is the second in nine days as oil marketing companies cite higher crude prices and supply worries from Gulf tensions.
On Tuesday, Compressed Natural Gas prices in Delhi increased by Rs 2 per kg to reach Rs 83.09 per kg, marking the fourth fuel rate revision within two weeks as revised prices took effect at 6 am.
Geopolitical tensions in West Asia have disrupted the Strait of Hormuz, through which India imports 88% of its crude oil needs; the strait has remained effectively blocked since March 1, creating supply concerns that kept international crude markets volatile.
CNG has risen Rs 5 per kg cumulatively since May 15 through four separate hikes on May 15, May 18, May 23 and Tuesday, while petrol and diesel increased Rs 2.61 and Rs 2.71 per litre respectively on Monday, bringing cumulative increases to nearly Rs 7.5 per litre.
Petrol prices in Delhi surged past Rs 100 per litre to Rs 102.12, with Kolkata recording the highest rate among metros at Rs 113.51 per litre, while Mumbai's petrol reached Rs 111.21 per litre and diesel climbed to Rs 97.83 per litre.
Risks of further disruptions persist as the United States military conducted strikes in southern Iran on Tuesday, while piped natural gas and LPG rates remain unchanged; cumulative fuel increases approaching Rs 7.5 per litre are raising inflation concerns and threatening higher transportation costs across sectors.
